Many cars fail the emissions test, leaving owners scrambling to make expensive repairs. Sometimes those repairs are warranted – sometimes not. Taking the following actions before you take your car in for an emissions test can keep you from being forced into needless repairs:
  • Add fuel injection cleaner to the gas tank.
  • Change the oil and air filter.
  • Change the spark plugs.
  • Check your antifreeze and make sure it’s at the correct levels.
  • If your Check Engine light is on, take the car to a mechanic and make any repairs needed to get it turned off.
If your car fails emissions after you’ve taken these actions, you can be confident that your car really did need emissions-related repairs.
