6 Things I Learned From the New Arrested Development

1. Spoiler Alert: This Song is Really Awesome! It debuts at the end of the final episode, It’s catchy opening is just the beginning of a very sad ending to a great series. “Boomerang” is from Lucy Schwartz’s new album, Timekeeper, coming out August 6th. Even if you hate Arrested Development, you can’t help but love this song.

2. The importance of Ostriches. Whatever comes next; whether it’s a highly anticipated movie or a second season on Netflix (technically the fifth season overall), there will be an ostrich. It will be important. If I'm wrong, at least the Ostrich economy has been stimulated by this series. President Obama, please take notice. This is how it's done.

3. Everyone’s Study Abroad Experience is Functionally The Same: They Grow Some Weird Body Hair And Have Awkward, Overly Sexual Experiences. Whether it’s the girl who returned home from Paris with a beret and armpit hair or George Michael’s mustache and awkward affair producing a possible nanny-baby, they all do the same things. This makes me feel significantly better about hiding in America for the rest of my college days. Side note - did anyone else notice the similarity of George Michael’s new mustache and the real George-Michael’s mustache?.

4. Guest Stars Should Be Used Sparingly. As if the finale episode of House didn’t serve as a warning, I don’t know what else could. Using too many guest stars (or giving them large roles in the episodes) takes away from the overall continuity and fun of a series. While I absolutely adore Kristen Wiig, I think we saw more of her than the actual Lucille Bluth, an abomination of the best character on the series.

5. Some Fabulous, Old Jokes Should Be Retired. Season four attempted multiple times to revive the original loose seal joke. While it was a favorite joke of mine, it just isn’t quite as funny in this season. With the all-star ensemble of cast and writers, I expected fresher material.

6. The Minor Characters Are Still The Best. Whether it’s an attorney who proves even blind justice isn’t that blind, this season’s silent but strong Heartfire, or the public service announcement veteran Rebel, the litany of side characters often provide the wittiest jokes of the series.
